Pain Snowball

October 14, 2019

So I drew this yesterday in clinic and thought I'd share it with you πŸ˜β˜ƒοΈ

Β

This is an analogy I used to explain to a patient:
1. Why the problem they have now isn't necessarily the problem they had at the start and
2. Why the pain they have got now has persisted for many months.

Β

Its a bit like a snow ball rolling down a hill: things sometimes get thrown at it along the way causing it to get bigger than the original problem. This is why often the pain we feel isn't proportionate to the amount of tissue damage caused and why it's important to realise that what's going on in life can have an effect on our recovery.

Β

⭐⭐⭐ ALL pain is 100% real, 100% individual and unique, and always affected (at least in some way) by context - what is (or was) happening in life at the time.⭐⭐⭐

Β

You can't just treat the mechanics of the body πŸ’ͺ without at least examining the thoughts and feelings around it.....πŸ€” same as you can't just treat the mind without addressing the body πŸ€Έβ€β™€οΈ

Any thoughts/opinions on this?πŸ€”

Β

P.s. snowballs, no matter how big they get or how long they've rolled down that hill, can always be broken down to a smaller, more manageable size πŸ‘Š;-) β˜ƒοΈ

I'm going to be sharing some more Pain Thoughts on this blog soon so watch this space πŸ€”πŸ˜Š
